This standard is issued under the fixed designation D 3673; the number immediately following the designation indicates the year of
original adoption or, in the case of revision, the year of the last revision. A number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval. A
superscript epsilon (e) indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.

1. Scope

1.1 These test methods cover the chemical analysis of alpha-olefin sulfonates. The analytical procedures appear in the
following order:
Sections
Moisture by the Distillation Method 4-8
Sodium Sulfate 9-14
Neutral Oil 15-19
Chlorides Calculated as Sodium Chloride (NaCl) 20-24
Alkalinity 25-29
pH 30 and 31
Determination of Color 32-37
Determination of Active Content by Methylene Blue Titration 38-47

1.2 This standard does not purport to address all of the
safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the
responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use. For specific
precautions, statements see 36.1. Material safety data sheets are
available for reagents and materials. Review them for hazards
prior to usage.
